The Coop is a not for profit collective of community musicians and music lovers who share creativity through live performances (Coop Concerts), music education, peer networking and promoting Franklin County as a hub of live music. The following tracks have been generously donated by each artist to be shared with you in this collection. All profits from the sale of this CD will be used to further the mission of the Coop and not the artists themselves. We hope this CD will encourage you to attend one of the Coop concerts or explore the other available offerings of the artist's discography.

Jenny Goodspeed's debut CD Under the Ash Tree is a sparkling fusion of folk, pop, and Americana . Beautifully-crafted lyrics, exquisite vocals, and heart-breaking melodies abound, all definitively steeped in her beloved New England landscape.

Tom is an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist and singer/ songwriter. He has toured extensively throughout the United States over the past 25 years and is now living in Western Massachusetts with his wife and family.

Singer-songwriter Julia Burrough has made this region home for some time. The CD Brighter Road was not only a personal triumph but also a critical success, earning her nominations in both the Best Album and Best Female Vocalist categories in the first annual Valley Advocate Music Poll.

Jennie's music combines the magic of the traditional ballad singer with the intimacy of the folk-chanteuse. She's a trained mezzo- soprano with a voice both angelic and wise, which floats above the current of a rock-solid, finger picked acoustic guitar.

Katie Clarke and Charlie Conant perform a mix of traditional old-time, country and bluegrass numbers peppered with over 40 of their original and distinctive songs. The cornerstone of their sound is the combination of harmony vocals over the blend of acoustic and resonator guitar.


07: Bob's Auto Parts (3:20) - Written By G.B. Grayson and Ed Phelps/Performed By Falltown String Band
Genre - Americana; From the CD - Stay On The Farm

The Falltown String Band has been performing throughout the tri-state area for twenty-one years. Their repertoire is an eclectic mix, ranging from Jefferson's campaign song to W.C. Handy, the Carter Family, Turlough O'Carolan, the Everly Brothers and John Fogerty.

Michael Orlen is a singer/songwriter and graduate of Boston's Charles Street music scene of the late 60's. From Michael one can expect anything from ballads, to bluegrass, and ragtime.

Pat & Tex LaMountain have been singing, writing, and performing in harmony for over 30 years. They have developed a diverse collection of material including American standards, swing tunes, folk, rock, bluegrass and country. Their music can be described as "upbeat and rhythmic, inspirational, sensitive, and catchy.


10: Go Home (4:08) - Written By Onie Wheeler/Performed By Seven Mile Line

Performers - Joe Carbone, fiddle and vocals - Matt Gravel, mandolin/lead vocal - Ray Poirier, Bass, - Greg Walko, guitar and vocals

Seven Mile Line is a high energy bluegrass foursome with a wide repertoire, including traditional, barroom blues, instrumentals, and gospel songs. With an emphasis on driving rhythms, heartfelt harmonies and unique song arrangements, They perform live shows in the time old bluegrass tradition of using a single microphone.


11: This Incredible Star (4:05) - Written/Performed By Joe Graveline

Joe has been a part of the music scene for years and was a former professional with the group Renegade. He crafts songs that tell stories about "life itself". Be it ballads, blues, or arrangements of contemporary favorites Joe brings excitement to his music.


12: Next Mornings Rain (5:24) - Written/Performed By Kathy Chapman
Genre: Popular/Folk; From the CD - Fertile Ground
Performers - Kathy Chapman, guitar/lead vocal - George Chapman, Bass - Mark Fraser, Cello - Roland Lapierre, Guitar - Patty Bell & Daren Loughrey, Harmony Vocals - Daniel Scott, Drums

Kathy is a local singer/songwriter with a unique vocal style with intricately woven lyrics. Her first CD, Because of You, was released in 2002. She performs with her husband, George, as well as with other COOP musicians.

"This was a love song written for the winter Coop show at the Pushkin Gallery. I was fascinated by the broken clock on the wall at the gallery, stuck at 10:01. I wrote the last verse on my way home from the soundcheck and played it later that night."

This CD is the independent release for this Greenfield based singer/songwriter, poet, and Berklee graduate. The album features Michael Farquharson (MCA artist/Juno nominee), T Lavitz (Grammy nominee of the Dixie Dregs)and Eugene Friesen (Grammy winning Paul Winter Consort).


15: Wintersong (3:29) - Written/Performed By Michael Nix
Genre - World; From the CD - Preludes, Airs, and Dances
Performers - Michael Nix, Classical Guitar

Michael has performed throughout the USA and Asia, has composed songs, chamber, symphonic music, and opera. Wintersong combines American jazz harmonies with South American rhythms. The A section was composed as an etude for flute and guitar, the B section added in preparation for a jazz ensemble, and the final arrangement was developed for solo guitar.


16: Big Rocks and Green Tomatoes (3:29) - Written/Performed By Russ Thomas
Genre: Roots/Folk
Performer - Russ Thomas, vocal/acoustic guitar

Russ Thomas is a singer-songwriter known for his humor, depth, versatility, and a rich baritone. Founding member of COOP, he frequently performs in support of social causes and works to help foster healthy communities of all sizes. Russ's first CD, "Patchwork," was #1 on Valley Advocate listing for local artists for two months in the last millennium.


17: Deep Ellum Blues (3:25) - Traditional/Performed By Michael Pattavina and Co.
Genre: Old Time
Performers - Michael Pattavina, Bass / Lead vocal - Don Calsyn, Fiddle - Kate LaPierre, Harmony vocal - Roland LaPierre, Guitar

Michael has been playing bass and banjo in various string bands for more than 25 years. Michael's current music projects include him playing fiddle on Cajun and Zydeco tunes. Michael has a profound performance style that perfectly expresses his love of stringed music.
